Warm Up
Three students were volunteered, Anh Phong, Chị Hoa and Anh Trung Nguyên, to play Taboo. The three students were given three Vietnamese words each as well as a list of words they are not allowed to say. Students had to describe their Vietnamese words to the rest of the class as quickly as possible. We started on a very interesting and challenging group of vowels and sounds: sounds with the vowel "U". This lesson we learned U / UA / UÊ / UI - UÔI / UƠ / UÔC - UỐT. Pages 57-59. We quickly reviewed the class' homework for translating story one. Then we handed out the translation for Story 2 to be done for homework. Here is Story 2's Audio.
Lesson 3 - Ideas Map An Ideas Map helps you to write notes during Meetings even when you have very limited vocabulary. It helps you organize your thoughts and ideas into a very graphical, structured and creative way. (Many were surprised by how much information they were able to record from their first meeting since learning this method) Keep using Ideas Maps and you will accelerate your meeting comprehension and your overall understanding of spoken Vietnamese.
Colours! Class was shown a series of Flash Cards depicting Vietnamese colours. But that was not all. We then split up into five groups of four, and we all played Vietnamese Twister! Charts were spread out on tables throughout the hall and each group had to be directed and direct each other to place either tay phải or tay trái on a màu. Once an entire group had finished these cycles, they were to move onto the next of the five charts around the room. Again, incorporating an activity in this lesson made us all learn this new vocabulary that much faster and more indelibly, or permanently. 5 minute Juggling practice reciting the list of the books of the Christian Greek Scriptures in Vietnamese.
Class was given this lesson's handout. We learned the effect that bị and được has on verbs (and some adjectives) that happen to you or others. We also learned how được can also be "able to." We then quickly learned how chẳng is used in the bible. Then we delved into the 500 meanings of "CÓ". We elaborated on 4 main meanings, as well as a fifth that dealt with a similar phrasal question: "phải không." Here is this lesson's Audio.
Today we had the privilege of listening to an interview with Chị Hường from our group. Anh Phong conducted the interview and we all learned a little of Chị Hường's back story and her experience coming into the truth.
Lesson 9 - Field ServiceThe class was given a small slip of paper with a presentation that included how to introduce a scripture. The students were told to solidly practice whatever scripture they intend to read so they can be as fluent as possible at the doors. The class was also advised to maybe not read the entire scripture as the wording is hard enough as it is for Vietnamese to understand upon first listen. However, if students were to read only the key phrase or sentence, this would be more effective. The phrase that introduces the scripture can be inserted into any of the presentations that the students have already received. Here is this presentation's audio.
