Warm Up
This week we played a Vietnamese Animal game. The class stood in a circle with Michael in the middle. Michael would point to one student after another, and call out Con Voi, Con Sư Tử or Con khỉ. The person pointed to would need to form the maw of the animal with their two hands, while the ones on either side of the selected student need to form that animals ears or mane with their hands. Then we started the elimination round. Last student standing won. Here are some photos of the hilarity.
Now that we have spent 14 weeks learning all the different letters and their combinations sounds, this week we learned the actual names of the letters! Just like the ABC's of English do not always correspond to the sounds they make, Vietnamese is much the same but fortunately with less differences. Please practice your Vietnamese A Ă Â 's. You need to know these by next week. Here is the Audio of the Alphabet.
Lesson 2 - Total Physical Response Again we started this lesson as an English Off lesson. The class was asked to đứng lên, and we taught them six action verbs. Like last time, they got more and more complicated, combining more than one action together, having only certain groups perform one action or more, while another group were to perform different actions. Lastly we added, adverbs: một cách nhanh, một cách chậm. The students were then given the homework action cards with more action verbs and infinitives on them. Here is the audio for these actions. Here are some photos of the class getting into the 'action'!
This week we learned a whole bunch of household furniture and appliance nouns using the timeless game Go Fish! We broke up into several groups and played with a set of Game cards per group, trying to collect as many pairs as possible. Another excellent way of retaining this new vocabulary. Here is this lesson's audio.
Same as above, but this time we learned to memorize the entire Vietnamese alphabet. We also explored what the Northern version is, however that is not what we will be focusing on, this was only so the class would recognize it when they hear it.
Lesson 5 - Juggling Practice This week the class practiced some more juggling while reciting the four seasons in Vietnamese.
Again we handed the marked Week 14 Dictation sheets back to the students. The class did even better than they did last week! We went over a few common errors, things to look out for. Then we started yet another round of Dictation. Michael read from Page 16 of the Listen to God and Live Forever brochure and when finished collected all the sheets for marking.
This week's culture lesson focused on importance of cultural hierarchy in Vietnamese communication and how understanding these cultural aspects can help us in communicating the truth to people.
This week we learned a few key phrases you will need when doing return visits. Return visits can bevery similar to first call work but for a few phrases which will hopefully continue the discussion. Keep using this in conjunction with your existing presentations, particularly with the Video presentation you were given last week. We broke up into groups and practiced these presentations with the Communicative Approach. Here is this presentation's audio.
