Week 17 Notes Print

Warm Up

This week we played dictionary. We had three volunteers come up onto the platform: Tobias, Amber and Ottilie. They were given the same four words each, but each with different definitions. Each one had to convince the class that their definition was the correct one. The four words were: Tùm lum tà la, Tốt Nghiệp, Tầm bậy tầm bạ, and khỉ mốc. Here is the audio for our four words.

Lesson 1 - Spelling and Reading

Firstly we reviewed spelling as a class, then we went over a number of the example words from last week's homework. Then we handed out page 5 of the same homework and had the class break up into four groups. In these four groups, along with our helpers, each student had to spell words they would select at random and the rest of their group would write down what the student was spelling. Then they would verify with the student. Round and round we went, improving our spelling skills.

Lesson 2 - 800 Words

First we checked the student's Prepositions homework from last week. Two things happened, neither of which were surprising. Firstly, there were many different takes on what was happening in each scene. Secondly, everyone did exceptionally well. Then we handed out a handout on Daily Routines, and broke up into four groups to play muscle memory/charades with these different routines. Here isthis part's audio. Also, here is the Daily Routines Homework.

Lesson 3 - Final Assignment Revealed

The time to reveal the Final Assignment has finally come. For reasons explained here, the final assignment has been changed this year to something much more appropriate, challenging and exciting for this class. You could feel the excitement in the room as students started to brainstorm on how exactly they were going to do their Final Assignment.

Tea Break

Lesson 4 - Reading Practice

Time to put all the Tones and Pronunciation and Spelling lessons into practice with Applied Reading. The class broke up into five groups and with a helper for each group they practiced reading out of theGood News from God brochure. With this targeted and focused assistance, we were able to really work on fine tuning the student's reading ability.

Lesson 5 - Dictation

The students shared the results of their marking their own Dictation sheets. What they were doing both right and wrong was even more apparent and clear to the students. Then we did our last Dictation lesson. Michael read from Page 31 of the Listen to God and Live Forever brochure. The sheets were collected, scanned and handed back to the students for personal marking again.

Lesson 6 - Culture

This week's culture lesson focused on last year's interview with Eric and Phoebe Beadle, a Gilead trained missionary couple who have served in many Vietnamese speaking assignments, and was, at the time of the interview, serving Springvale South Congregation in Melbourne. The interview revealed extremely helpful tips and advice from their own experiences and training.

Lesson 7 - Field Service

The class was told about the new Vietnamese bible study Video that's on jw.org and reminded that they could use their "Video" presentation with this new video also. Then the class broke up into 5 groups to practice the Bible Study presentation they received last week.

Homework
