Lesson 1
More of the 800 words - more day-to-day things. This week we did feelings. The class broke into groups of 3 plus a helper. The helper would act out a feeling as listed on the sheet and the group would try to guess which it was. (Worksheet)
Lesson 2
Revision of homework for bị/được and không/chẳng and có and the translation of Bible Story number 2. Then on to this week’s translation lesson. The class received chapter 1 of a an epic story written by a brother in our congregation. This will be given to you in chapters - a chapter a week. This will not be checked each week, it will not be done in class, however, if you are going to keep up with the lively happenings of Alastair and his friends you will need to keep up with your translating at home! This story has proved very addictive for classes in the past, we hope you enjoy it too.
Lesson 3
Tones and sounds. Revision of last week’s sounds then on to new sounds UY (be very careful with this sound, it is quite different from UI!!) UYA / UYẾT – UYỆT / UYÊN / UYNH (Worksheet)
Lesson 4
Musical dictation. Have you ever noticed that no matter how strong a person’s accent is when they speak English, when they sing you can hardly tell? Singing is an excellent way to perfect an accent. The class received a handout of the first verse of song 109. Three Vietnamese helpers then read each word slowly and clearly for the class. The class wrote down how the pronunciation sounded to them under the word. Then the class got up and sang for their rather large audience of helpers. They sounded fantastic! After much applause, the class used the second page of the handout to see how these songs can be adapted to presentations, if only they could be sung at the doors.
Lesson 5
New sounds UÔN – UÔNG / UÔM / UN – UNG / UM / ÚC - ỤC – ÚT - ỤT / ÚP - ỤP and more practice of the difference between UY and UI. Then revision using the box on page 26A. (Worksheet)
Lesson 6
The challenge of showing personal interest. We have learnt some ministry related questions we can use in the field. Here are some general interest questions to help you get to know the people you call on.
Homework
As per homework sheet. Just a note on last week’s homework, Crystal counted 372 sounds that we have learnt so far.
