Week 10 PDF Print E-mail

It's Week 10, we are over half way already!!!

Lesson 1: Anh Long taught us TONES & SOUNDS (worksheet)
ÔNG & ONG – differences in pronunciation were discussed. We also practised ỐNG & ÓNG with other tones & ỐP, ỘP, ỐT, ỘT, ỐC, ỘC, ỌC.

HOMEWORK was reviewed. The students raised a few interesting questions they had after translating Bible story number 1. Some connectives were mentioned. Translating Bible story number 2 is homework for next week (this worksheet will make it easier).

Lesson 2: Anh Bảo taught us COLOURS & FRUITS (worksheet)

Students took turns guessing the correct tone & writing it on the colours after they were said by the instructor. We also played a quick game with a few pictures on the board of fruit. Students were asked to say the name of the fruit when the instructor pointed to a drawing of it on the board. The students did very well remembering the names of the fruits, this exercise shows how effective flash cards are in language retention. Students were encouraged to keep using flash cards at home.

Lesson 3: Anh Long taught TONES & SOUNDS. Ơ, ƠI, ƠM, ƠN, ỚT, ỢT, ỚP, ỢP. (worksheet)
Everyone mastered Ơ easily.

Lesson 4: Anh Long taught us LANGUAGE STRUCTURE (worksheet)

  • Adding một cách turns an adjective into a adverb. ie: it's like adding “ly” to the end of a word. Quick-ly = một cách nhanh chóng

  • “isms” material-ism = chủ nghĩa vật chất

  • Tenses: Đã – past, Đang – present, Sẽ – future.

Students spent a few minutes writing their own sentences using tenses & then shared them with the rest of the class.
Some examples:

Tôi đã ngũ tối hôm qua,

Tôi đang học tiếng Việt,

Tôi đang uống nước.

Lesson 5: Anh Bảo & anh Long explained when we should use bị/được. Students were given a few minutes to fill in the appropriate word on this (worksheet). The students then shared their answers.

Anh Long explained a little more on “không” & "chẳng”.

Tôi không có tiền.
Chị có tìen không?

Lesson 6: Anh Long taught us how to pray at mealtimes & when conducting a Bible study (worksheet).

Homework – as per sheet.

Assignments were given to each student for the final week. Please work on this yourself, without the help of a Vietnamese person. Try to keep it simple & use words you've learnt rather than complicated phrases. You have plenty of time, so try not to be overwhelmed by this task.

Reminders: Our ngon lunch next week! Please bring a drink or fruit to share :o)
