Week 11 PDF Print E-mail

Lesson 1 - Anh Long taught TONES & SOUNDS. (worksheet)

U, UA, UÊ, UI/UÔI, UI/UÔI, UƠ.

Unrelated but interesting trivia: we also learned the meaning of: bia, cà-phê, sô-cô-la, xì-căn-đan (these words sound similar in English)

Lesson 2 - Anh Bảo taught MUSICAL DICTATION (worksheets)

Singing is a remarkable tool in helping us to fine tune our pronunciation & tones because when we sing in the language we are learning, we can sound like a native even if it's our very first attempt! In Vietnamese the musical pitch dictates the tone. Students sang song #109 & then were randomly selected to read parts of the song, this exercise showed us how much singing helps our tones. Students were encouraged to keep singing in Vietnamese.

Lesson 3 - Anh Long taught TONES & SOUNDS. (worksheet)

UỐC, UỐT, UÂN/UÂNG, UÂY, UẤT, UỘC, UẬT, UÂY.

Lesson 4 - Anh Long taught us more about LANGUAGE STRUCTURE (worksheets)

We learned different ways to use CÓ:

  • as a verb

  • as a support-word (before the main verb)

  • without a subject

  • as part of a question

  • as it's own question

Lesson 5 – Anh Bảo taught us about FEELINGS (worksheet)

We also had our first taste of dictation, there will be more in the coming weeks.

Students took turns reading words while their partner wrote what they heard on the blackboard.

Class split then into small groups & we played “Feeling Charades”.

Lesson 6 – Anh Long taught us more on CÓ.

Lesson 7 – Anh Bao gave the students (this Narrative - Chapter 1) to translate. Students were asked to analyse the story. Isolate the main characters & get involved in the plot as it develops, each week you will receive the next chapter.

  • Homework for this week - as per (sheet)

  • Mind maping was discussed & how it will help us as we progress, try this at the meeting.

We enjoyed a very ngon lunch today, made by chị Shirley.
