Lesson 1 - Anh Bảo reviewed how to say these double consonants: gh, ph, th, kh, ng, ngh, nh, tr, ch.
Anh Bảo & anh Long reviewed how to SPELL out a word the way Vietnamese children are taught.
Here is the procedure that was taught: 1) Spell out each VOWEL(S) & CONSONANT(S) then pronounce the sound it makes. EG: Ă N G = ĂNG 2) Pronounce the sound of the CONSONANT at the beginning of the word. EG: L ( LỜ) 3) Pronounce the whole word without the tone. EG: L ( LỜ )+ ĂNG = LĂNG 4) Pronounce the word plus the tone. LĂNG + NẶNG = LẶNG
Lesson 2 - DICTATION with anh Long. Anh long read (this sheet) & students added tones. Sheets were collected to be marked.
Lesson 3 - Anh Baỏ & anh Long reviewed GOOD NEWS/BAD NEWS stories. Students read their stories, instructors & other students translated what they heard.
Lesson 4 - SURPRISE KITCHEN WORD TEST! Students were given (this sheet) & had a few minutes to fill in the blanks. Students were asked to take this sheet home & correct their work. If there is room for improvement, please take the time to learn these words by spending some time everyday reviewing them & re-testing yourself. It is also beneficial to label items in your kitchen so everytime you see them you are reminded of the Vietnamese word.
Lesson 5 - Anh Long taught DAILY ROUTINE. Students were given (this sheet). To help us visualize things, Anh Long handed out this sheet. Anh Long asked the students this question: Anh Quang làm gì trong hình số....? Brother Quang do what in picture number... Students answered: Anh Quang (đang)...trong hình số... Brother Quang doing........in picture number... The class then split into pairs & practised asking these same questions & answering with their assigned partner. Anh Long then asked the students: Anh Quang (thường thường)(activity) lúc mấy giờ? Students were taught how to answer: Anh Quang (activity) lúc.................giờ. Students were asked to practise this at home & for homework & were told to write about their weekly routine & also prepare to ask another student about their routine next week (students were given this worksheet for homework)
Lesson 5 – Random READING with anh Bảo. Students were given a copy of (Bible Story 105) & were randomly selected to read sections. Anh Long then read the same section & students followed along as he read. Students were then randomly selected to repeat the reading. Well done everyone, this was a great effort. Try to read aloud everyday for 10 minutes, you'll be amazed how much this helps!
Lesson 6 – Our NARRATIVE continues! This week a controversial romance begins...Students shared what they had read & translated, everyone did very well with this. Students received the (next gripping chapter) in our ongoing drama :o)
Lesson 7 – More READING. The class split into 4 groups & continued reading aloud Bible Story 105 with instructors & helpers.
Homework as per (sheet). With only 4 weeks to go, students were reminded that an hour a day is required to benefit fully from this course. Students were also reminded to attend as many meetings in Vietnamese as possible & also witness in Vietnamese regularly to make the most of what they're learning.
