Lesson 1 – SPELLING THE VIETNAMESE WAY with anh Bảo. Students were given an article & took turns spelling one word each for anh Bảo as he wrote what he heard them say on the blackboard. Well done everyone!
Lesson 2 – Anh Bảo & anh Long reviewed GOOD NEWS/BAD NEWS STORIES from a couple of weeks ago. The stories were very funny! In one story, a sister arrived at the meeting early but then realised she was wearing pyjamas while another student told us he is looking forward to growing large fruit in the New System but is not looking forward to the large pips! Students did very well with this exercise. This is a fun way to learn sentence structure & phrases...keep doing this at home, if you have a white board, why not add a new sentence to your story each week?
Lesson 3 – COMPREHENSION exercise. Students were given an article & were broken into 3 smaller groups to translate as much as they could without the aid of a dictionary. Each group had an instructor to assist them if they got stuck. It was suggested that students do this at home when reading the daily text or perhaps the Watchtower, use your English translation to assist you.
Lesson 4 – TONGUE TWISTERS with anh Long. Students were given these (“N” & “C” stories). Anh Long randomly selected students to read portions of the tongue twisters. This was repeated a number of times, students greatly improved in their reading of these tongue twisters over the course of the lesson. Great work everyone! Anh Long reminded the students that last week, when they read the Bible story to him for the first time, he understood approx. 50% but after practising for 10 minutes, he could understand much more. This shows how effective it is to practise, practise, practise! Hear the recordings of these here: http://db.tt/1wK6vKP
Students received the final chapter in our dramatic (NARRATIVE) for translation.
Lesson 5 – VIETNAMESE PROVERBS with anh Long. Students received this sheet with (16 Vietnamese proverbs) & the English translation. Students took turns reading one of the proverbs each & anh Long expanded on the meanings. A long list of Proverbs is available here.
Lesson 6 – COMPREHENSION with anh Long. Students received this sheet with (8 questions) to answer. The students took turns reading aloud each of the questions & then translated what they understood. Students wrote their answers on the sheet in Vietnamese & then shared what they had written with the rest of the class.
Students received their final (HOMEWORK) sheet.
Next week it's over to our students! We KNOW that you will do an amazing job :o) Here are a few tips for your preparation: 1. Record a Vietnamese person reading your talk at a slower pace than they usually would. 2. Pause the recording after shadow reading each sentence & read aloud what you have just heard. 3. Repeat the previous step regularly until you are happy with your pronunciation etc. 4. Ask a Vietnamese person to join (hyphenate) the words you should say together (on your notes) so that your presentation will sound more fluent. 5. Make sure your notes are large enough for you to clearly see the tones. 6. Read your talk aloud at least once a day for the next week.
