Lesson One - Tones and Pronunciation - Pages 29 & 30

Starting Level 3!

New vowel  I - Y (Y becomes like a vowel in Vietnamese) Both are pronounced the same.

New Sound GI

Pronounced either Z (northern) or Y (Southern). The class was encouraged to pronounce Jehovah and Jesus using the northern Z sound but otherwise to use the southern Y.

New sound IA

New sound IÊU / ÊU / IU (pronounced the same)

New sound IÊN / IÊNG / YÊN (pronounced the same)

Lesson Two - 100 Words

Quick explanation of GI and what happens when gì is the whole word. Be careful not to pronounce it Gee.

Review of last weeks word associations. The class remembered them all!

This week the class learnt 15 more words using the word association method.

Some word associations the class have come up with are: Zephaniah (Sô-phô-ni) is so funny! Lamentations (Ca Thương) is like a cartoon. Is THIS horse yours? Này.

Don't forget, word association is not an exercise in pronunciation but rather an exercise to aid memory retention.

Lesson Three - Family ULG

The class gave their answers to last weeks homework to fill in the theocratic terms. You can find the completed sheet here.

Then on to the Family ULG. The class received a handout of this weeks ULG.

In groups of four, the students had to come up with 2 new verbs and 2 new places in English.

The additional verbs were: wants (muốn), doesn't want (không muốn), go (đi), to live (sống), loves/likes (thích), can't (không thể)

The additional places were: School (trường học), Kingdom Hall (Phồng Nước Trời), Vietnam (Vietnam), Beach (Biển), home (về nhà), oversees - nước ngoài.

Anh Anthony also added 'em' to the family members - younger sister/brother

Add these words to your ULG and make your own ULG for homework.

Lesson Four - Tones and Pronunciation - Pages 30 & 31

The longest word in Vietnamese: nghiêng - seven letters, means lean. Tháp nghiêng, is leaning tower of Pisa.

More clarification - Ghe/Ghi to pronounce Gh

New Sound IN / INH

New Sound IẾP IỆP / ÍP ỊP (two tones)

New Sounds IẾC IỆC / IẾT IỆT (two tones) / YÊT

New Sound ÍT ỊT (two tones) / ÍCH ỊCH (Two tones)

Congrats, you've finished Level 3.

Lesson Five - HOW?

The question ‘HOW’. The how question is very difficult to cover. Whilst we covered all the other questions in one lesson a few weeks ago, the ‘how’ question will be covered over two weeks. The general explanations can be found on the hand-out sheets. Familiarise yourself with these explanations, use your homework to get some practice at using the different questions and ‘how’ statements and if you have any questions please raise them next week.

Lesson Six - Culture

Interview with Chị Thu. Anh Dũng's wife

Lesson Seven - Field service.

Using the peaceful new world tract, the class learnt to group words together correctly.

Đời-Sống | trong | một | thế giới mới | Thanh bình |

The class then learnt Ps 37:29. We will learn the scripture this week, and add it to our presentation next week.

Sarah got up to instruct the class on how to say the scripture.
