Warm up Exercise
Michael pulled an old 'twisting the arm' trick on the class, but, all the instructions were given in Vietnamese. The class learnt a few helpful words from this exercise: ngón tay, ngón tay cái, xuống, quay.
Lesson One - Tones and Pronunciation - Page 27
Revision of sounds: U / UA / UI / UY / UYT
Ơ / Ư / ƯA / ƯU=ƯƠU / ƯI = ƯƠI / ƯƠN = ƯƠNG
Lesson Two - Ideas Mapping
The class received a handout explaining Ideas Mapping. This is excellent way to take notes at meetings. At first, you won't understand too much of the meeting, but using this method every week will help you increase your comprehension significantly. It is all too easy to let our minds drift at meetings when we understand very little of what is said. This method is both an attention keeping and comprehension exercise!
Lesson Three - 300/800 words - Kitchen words
Review of last week's lesson and homework. This week's lesson was on kitchen items we commonly use.
The class learnt
Cup - Ly.
Plate - Đĩa
Bowl - Tô
Rice bowl - Chén
Spoon - muỗng
Knife - con dao
Chop sticks - đôi đũa
Fork - nĩa
They then played a game of 'Morse Code'. Each pair of students took one bowl, one cup, one fork, one knife, one spoon, one rice bowl and a pair of chopsticks. Anthony had a combination of four items written down which was his 'code'. The students had to pick four items, put them in an order, take them to Anthony and ask in Vietnamese if they had the code correct. Anthony would tell the students if they had an item incorrect, correct or correct but in the wrong order.
Lesson Four - Tones and Pronunciation - Page 28
New sound: ƯỚC - ƯỢC = ƯỚT - ƯỢT (two tones)
New sound: ƯỚP-ƯỢP (Two tones)
New sound: ƯN - ƯNG
New sound: ỨC - ỰC = ỨT ỰT (pronounced the same)(two tones)
Congratulations - you've finished learning all the sounds in Vietnamese

This weeks dictation was taken from The Listen to God and Forever brochure page 16.
Lesson 6 - Culture - Adjusting our teaching method.
