Warm Up

Blindfolded directions. Anh Châu, Anh Clinton, và Chị Yoon were blindfolded and Anh Thông, Anh Trung Nguyên, và Anh Giăng had to direct them, in Vietnamese, to their three respective scarves around the room. No students were harmed (much) in this warm up.
Lesson 1 - Tones and Pronunciation

We did the "U" sounds Reading Exercises as an exam, but this time we had each volunteered student orchestrate the rest of the class with each sentence. It was fast paced, random, and our students displayed such high quality reading. Then we started on our final group of sounds: " Ư ". We did Ư / ƯA / ƯU / ƯƠU / ƯƠI - ƯI. Pages 69-71. Here is this lesson's audio.

Lesson 2 - Total Physical Response

Another English Off lesson. Students were all asked to đứng lên. Then they were told and shown the action: chỉ đến. And then they gradually learned to chỉ đến the following body parts: đầu, mũi, vai, bụng, bàn tay, bàn chân. As the method of this lesson stipulates, they were to respond physically to the commands which got progressively more difficult, all while keeping silent... laughing was ok. While it started with "Các anh chị chỉ đến đầu", it progressed to commands like "các anh đứng lên và chỉ đến đầu và bụng và các chị ngồi xuống và chỉ đến mũi và vai." The class did marvelously. Then the class was given some more body parts flash cards and we explained how to do Total Physical Response at home for homework. Here is this lesson's audio for the extra body parts to learn for homework.

Lesson 3 - 800 Words

Today we learned articles of clothing as well as reinforced our Colours vocabulary. But we did it playing Cluedo!! Once the rules were explained to the class, we broke up into five groups and got to playing. For those of you who did not get a set to take home to play and learn, you'll find everything you need to make Clothing Cluedo here. Here is the audio to everything Vietnamese in this link. The class also received a printout with all the common articles of clothing on it (first page of link).

Tea Break

Lesson 4 - Tones and Pronunciation

This lesson we finished our " Ư " sounds. ƯƠN - ƯƠNG / ƯƠM / ƯƠC - ƯƠT / ƯƠP / ƯN - ƯNG / ƯC - ƯT. Pages 72-74. Here is this lesson's audio.

Lesson 5 - Dictation

Each student received a dictation chart, Michael read the first paragraph of the inside cover of the Listen to God and Live Forever brochure. The class wrote down as accurately as they could what they were hearing. This will be marked and given back to the students next week. Please note, this is not a test. This is to help you learn correct spelling, if you make mistakes, this is a good thing. Why are we getting you to write before giving you formal training in writing? This is an accelerated class that is focused on helping you hear and speak. Using what you hear through dictation, writing it down and having it corrected, builds a link between what you hear and how words are written.

Lesson 6 - Culture Lesson

We discussed the steadily increasing phenomenon of Vietnamese suggested presentations in the Our Kingdom Ministry not always being directly translated from English. This demonstrates how our organization also recognizes that culture differences could affect how effective one approach is over another.

Lesson 7 - Field Service

The students were given a handout detailing some of the most common responses/objections received in the Vietnamese field. This is so our students can recognize what they are hearing as well as prepare an appropriate response. The class then broke up into four groups and with our Helpers, practiced their current presentations with objections. Here is the audio for Common Responses.

Homework

As per homework sheet. Also the Word of the Day hand out was given. Here is the audio for it.
